This study provides an in-depth exploration of the experiences of students who have been active as
athletes from adolescence to college and who have been in the training and the exercise since the exercise.
The purpose of this study is to suggest support in establishing new goals and countermeasures for
university athletes who have abandoned exercise. The study participants consisted of seven college students who had an athletic career of seven years or more who had achieved a high level of success in the
department and had a firm goal after overcoming the difficulties that they had been neglected in their
studies since the end of the athlete career. Data collection consisted of the conducting of in-depth
interviews of the research participants, and these interviews were able to capture the individual's experiences
after composing a written research a agreement. And qualitative case study were used for data analysis.
The experience of each of the college students who gave up exercise can be summarized as follows:
‘reached my limit as an athlete’, ‘emptiness and wandering after the abandonment of exercise’, ‘lack of
basic academic ability’, 'encouragement of the people who helped me’, ‘strive to do more’, ‘joy of sweet
achievement’, ‘lead toward a definite goal’. Based on these results, this study suggests that educational
support should be provided for students who have stopped doing exercise in university.
