This study is a non-equivocal control group pre- and post-experiment study which examines the effect of
sugar on ingestion-induced stress reduction. The study subjects were 30 healthy students attending S
University in Seoul who agreed to participate in the study. They were numbered in the order of visits to
the experimental sites, and were assigned to the experimental group and the control group with a time
difference of 14 persons each. Experimental methods were stressed using a computer - programmed stress -
inducing tool and subjects were given solid candy for 3 minutes. The control group was stabilized for 3
minutes without treatment. The collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA using SPSS (Ver. 21) program.
As a result, the stress index (F=5.64, p=.026) was significantly decreased and the stress resistance (F=9.37,
p=.005) was significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group. In conclusion,
it was confirmed that sweetness intake is an effective intervention method to help relieve stress.
