This study sought to the features and limited factors, and the supports required for the effective leisure activities of middle school students with developmental disabilities. The study participants were four mothers of students with intellectual disability and ASD(Autism Spectrum Disorder) attending special schools or special education classes. After interviewing them, the subjects were derived through a process of being recursively categorized by the qualitative data analysis. The results of this study are as follows.
First, middle school students with developmental disabilities frequently spend leisure time alone. The leisure activities helps students with developmental disabilities to live healthy. The leisure activities seem to be a natural educational activities.
Second, middle school students with developmental disabilities enjoyed leisure time at home, school and community routinely. In addition, they were enjoying their leisure time by traveling with their family.
Finally, the mothers of middle school students with developmental disabilities overwhelmed economically, physical and psychologically about the leisure activities of their children. Therefore, they recognized the needs of the supports for leisure activities of their children.
According to these results, this study suggested the needs of the supports of leisure program and the development of the leisure program for the students with developmental disabilities.
