This study provides a curricular model for an elective course entitled Korean Language Arts Education
for Young Children. The curricular model incorporates a multi-cultural component to coincide with
globalization of the 21st century. As suggested by Derman-Sparks and the ABC task force, the
multi-cultural component is integrated throughout the school year following themes established by the
Korean Ministry of Education. The multi-cultural component provides exposure to Korean culture and
uses a balanced approach.
The study introduces model that utilizes web-based instruction as one of many instructional tools.
It also describes program needs, content, strategies, other special features, and follow-up studies on
implementation outcome.
This study is unique in that it was implemented as a cyber elective course. The study is a collaborative
work among Korea Cyber University, Nanal Co., and KUniverse. Data from program implementation
has been used to develop ShaSha Korean Language Program.
Results of the study suggest further research is necessary in the area of cyber curriculum efficacy
and outcomes using the research generated ShaSha Korean Language Curriculum.
