The purpose of this study is to find volunteering for student counselling; conceptual differences between volunteers and non-volunteers as to volunteering, parental communication with children; and causal relations among the variables to influence parental communication with children. The study subjects are 191 volunteers and 195 non-volunteers for student counselling of Daegu city. The study instruments are measurements of communication, using SPSS 12.0 to produce frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe’s test, multiple regression analysis. The study results are as follows.
First, compared between volunteers and non-volunteers on their awareness of voluntarism and parental communication with children, it comes out that volunteers showed higher marks than non-volunteers on voluntarism, and open family communication.
Second, variables that showed significant difference on their awareness of voluntarism and parental communication with children, were volunteers and non-volunteers for student counselling, age, monthly income. it comes out that volunteers showed higher marks than non-volunteers on voluntarism, and functional communication.
Third, factors influencing parental communication with children turn out to be age, volunteers and non-volunteers, awareness about voluntarism. In other words, volunteers with lower age, higher awareness for voluntarism, and volunteers displayed a higher degree of open family communication.
