The purpose of this study was to examine how the background characteristics of the volunteer for student counseling such as age, family support, academic background, family income, the kind of religion and self-esteem, according to the background characteristics, which volunteers for student counseling have the meaningful difference of the voluntary continuity in terms of the duration and time per month of the service, positiveness, satisfaction and whether they continue participation in the service. The subjects of the study included 143 volunteers for student counseling from Institute of Education and Science located in Kangwondo area, They were surveyed using questionnaire forms, each of which contained totaled 49 question items, some of which were based on coopersmith\'s scale of self-esteem. For this study, Data collected from the survey were statistically processed through SPSSWIN 10.1 Program, Frequencies, Chi-square, One-way ANOVA, Duncan was done to verify the difference of voluntary continuity. The major findings of this study can be seen as follows: First, among background characteristics of volunteers for student counseling, there were differences in the continuity of volunteers\' service activities according to their age and family support, while academic background, family income, the kind of religion do so little. But there were differences in the continuity of service counseling between the religious and the non-religious. Second, the self-esteem of volunteers for student counseling is not related to the difference of the continuity, especially in terms of the duration and time per month of the service, positiveness, satisfaction and whether they continue participation in the service. Most of volunteers for student counseling have the motivation of the counseling service. Even though self-esteem of volunteers was low, they had very strong will of the continuity of the service. The volunteers\' voluntary consciousness is more related to the continuity than the background characteristics of the volunteers.
