본 논문은 노년기의 가장 큰 생활스트레스인 배우자 사별을 경험한 노인들의 사별적응에 대한 구조방정식 모형을 검증하였다. 배우자 죽음의 질과 대처자원 및 대처전략 수준이 사별노인의 적응에 영향을 줄 것이며, 대처전략이 배우자 죽음의 질 및 대처자원과 사별적응 사이를 매개한다는 구조방정식 모형을 설정하여 사별적응의 영향 요인 구조와 대처전략의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 실증적 분석을 위해 본 연구에서는 배우자를 사별한 지 5년 이하의 402명(남=103/여=299)의 65세 이상 남녀 노인들을 대상으로 한 일대일 면접설문조사를 실시한 결과, 제안된 연구 모형이 적합한 것으로 나타났으며, 대처전략이 대처자원과 사별적응 간에는 통계적으로 유의하게 매개하고 있지만, 배우자 죽음의 질과 사별적응 간에는 매개효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 대처자원과 사별적응 간의 대처전략 완전 매개모형과 부분 매개모형 간에 어느 모형이 더 적합한지 결정하기 위하여 차이검정과 적합도 지수를 검토한 결과 부분 매개모형이 지지되었다.
This study examines the causal structural model of adjustment to widowhood, and the group differences in the causal model by multi-group simultaneous analysis. The research model hypothesized that the quality of conjugal death, coping resources and coping strategies affect adjustment to widowhood among the elderly, and that coping strategies mediate between the quality of conjugal death, coping resources and adjustment to widowhood. For the purpose of empirical testing, the research data were collected nationwide on the bereaved. The sample was restricted to 65 year old people less than 5 years after bereavement. 402 samples (103 males: 299 females) were analyzed. Major findings in this study follow. First, the causal model demonstrated the effectiveness of the analysis of the structural equation model, and that all exogenous variables (quality of conjugal death, coping resources and coping strategies) positively affectedthe adjustment to widowhood among older adults. Second, coping strategies were demonstrated to mediate between coping resources and the adjustment to widowhood, and the partial mediating model was more suitable than the full mediating model.
