The purpose of this study is to investigate the current states of curriculum in special classes for elementary schools and find out some suggestions to improve and develop a new one. The subjects of this investigation are 97 special class teachers for elementary schools in Gyeong-gi Province, who were questioned on the actual conditions and the ways for the improvement of the curriculum in special classes in elementary schools.
The actual curriculum of special classes are operated on a part time basis. The average number of students per class is 7.7, which holds children of learning disorder, mentalretardation, emotional disturbance, etc. Most of the schools have their own special curriculums though lots of decisions have been made by special education teachers. The course of study is composed of general education curriculum and special education curriculum. IDP has not been applied so highly in a practical aspect. The general class teachers and the special class teachers has cooperated properly. Extra-curriculum activities and voluntary-curriculum activities are managed by integrational class teachers mostly.
As a result, the followings can be suggested for the improvement of special education curriculum, First, special classes should be offered in varied ways for the students\' individualities. Second, for the effectiveness of the curriculum management, organization, and evaluation, the special education curriculum should be planned more actively by related participants from the beginning. Third, special education teachers should be trained and pursed the study of the specialized ability, which will have an affect to improve the current special education curriculum in elementary school.
