This purpose of this study is to examme the effect of emotional intelligence as a mediating variable in
relations between adolescence-parental attachments and adjustment to college life. To study the effect, the
survey which consisting of scales of the parental attachment, the emotional intelligence, and the
adjustment to college life inventories was conducted. And, its collected data were analyzed by Predictive
Analytics SoftWare (PASW) statistics 18.0. First, it was shown that male students represented higher
scores than female students at all scales among the father attachment inventory and at scales of the
interpersonal trust among the mother attachment inventory. The distinguishable score difference was found
at scales of adjustment to college life inventory between male and female student groups. Second, it was
found that each subscale of inventories for the father/mother attachment, the emotional intelligence, and
the adjustment to college life was all positively correlated. Third, it was confirmed that the emotional
intelligence is a key mediating variable influencing over the adjustment to college life for both male and
female students because not only the college life adjustment was directly influenced by the parental
attachment, but also the parental attachment and the adjustment to college life were mediated by the
emotional intelligence. Also, the limitation of the study and future researches were discussed.
