The aim of the present study was to investigate parent's perception on transition services, transition
status including employment, postsecondary education and community living, necessity on transition
education programs, and needs to improve transition outcomes for students with disabilities in regular high
schools. 315 parents of students with disabilities in Gyeongsang- nam-Do participated for this study and a
survey was used to collect data. The main results were as follows. First, 54% of parents was found to
have knowledge about transition services. Second, in terms of their children's transition status after high
school, parents hoped employment, postsecondary vocational education course, and entrance into junior
colleges in order. Parents also expected their children living with them most, dormitory residence, and
independent living as living status in order. Third, parents answered all skills suggested in transition
education programs were necessary, and among those skills they preferred social skills, independent living
skills, and communication skills more. Fourth, parents asked schools increase of vocational training times
most, parent education for transition services, and more cooperation with local companies for practical
training next in order to improve their children's transition outcomes. Fifth, parents asked government
increase of employment rate for people with disabilities, entrance quota into postsecondary vocational
education course in special schools, and increase of collaboration and connection with local companies for
internship. The results of this study hopefully will be useful for transition education planning and
implementation in schools and transition services support centers, and development of policy and
curriculum for transition services in the related governmental agencies.
