The purpose of this study was exploring characteristics of ‘teacher variable network(TVN)’
in the relationship of principals’ transformational leadership, students’ academic performance
and their educational growth. This study conducted ‘social network analysis’, using annual
correlation coefficients among the variables resulted from data of KEDI’s “Actual Status and
Its Level of School Education in Korea (2007~2011).” The findings are as follows. First, there
were high correlation more than .8 between ‘organizational citizenship behavior’ and
‘followership’, besides significant correlations among the variables were changed annually.
Second, the most influential variable for increasing the density and the centralization of TVN
is ‘teacher efficacy’ at elementary schools, ‘teacher commitment’ or ‘teacher zeal’ at middle
schools or general high schools, and ‘authentic instruction’ at specialized schools. Third, to
increase academic performance or educational growth as much as transformational leadership
increases, it’s necessary that the density and centralization of TVN rise up and at the same
time, ‘structural hole’ and what have the same role should position between independent
variables and dependent variables. Therefore, to make principals’ transformational leadership
affect students’ academic performance and educational growth, teacher variables should be
managed on the whole. In addition, not only the variables of ‘structural hole’ which defends
on the types of school but also the others need to be cared.
