This study is to distinguish the meanings imbedded in the experience of special teachers
who instruct physical education for the students with severe/multiple disabilities through the
approach of phenomenology. To this end, data have been collected by depth interview
which was suggested by Seidman and analyzed according to study methodologies of Giorgi.
As a result of analysing the experiences of special teachers who are charged in physical
education classes for the students with severe/multiple disabilities at special schools, four
factors such as 'limiting constraints for class', 'experiences of physical education classes',
'class away from my wish', 'factors to motivate' and eleven different sub-factors have been
drawn.
'Limiting constraints for class' from the experience of special teachers who instruct
physical education for the students with severe/multiple disabilities has been classified into
physical environment, limit of conditions, insufficient resources, negative awareness, and lack
of programs. The study participants experience 'class away from my wish' while they
perform physical education classes. It could be classified into less-concentrated class,
unplanned class, and confusing and non-confident class.
However, study participants arrange their own directions for class and run physical
education classes despite of 'Limiting constraints for class', 'experiences of physical education
classes' and 'class away from my wish'. In this serial course, study participants experience
'factor to encourage motive' for the students with severe/multiple disabilities to find 'hope'
in physical education class and recover their own confidence.
