The purpose of this study is to investigate a pre-service English teacher's educational development
through reflective journal writing. To do this, the applicant's journals were collected and categorized
by three events(teaching practice at school, studying at a qualitative research methodology seminar
and conducting master thesis).
The participant experienced theory and practice through a pre-service teacher internship and
learned how to develop a localized model of EFL teaching in Korea. Through a qualitative research
methodology seminar, the participant learned that action research makes it possible for teachers to
observe their teaching, identify problems and reflect on their solutions. While conducting her master
thesis, the participant has discovered the meaningfulness of reflective journal writing and educational
development.
These results show that we need to discuss the educational development through journal writing
as an important learning process at pre-service English teacher programs. Reflections on teaching lead
to professional development of teachers and it is by journal writing to be able to explore the
educational experience.
