본 연구에서는 교육대학에서 교대생의 교직 동기 변화 과정의 특징을 분석하기 위하여 한 교육대학 학생 20명을 대상으로 질적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 교대생들은 교대 교육 과정에서 교직 동기 측면에서 뚜렷한 변화 양상을 보여 주었는데, 교직 동기가 강한 상태에서 교육대학에 들어 온 학생들은 대체적으로 교직 동기가 약해지고, 교직 동기가 약한 상태에서 교대에 들어 온 학생들은 교대 교육 과정을 통해 교직 동기가 강해지는 즉 ‘교차현상’이 나타났다.교직 동기의 정도가 서로 교차하는 교차현상의 원인으로는, “교육대학 교육과정의 영향”, “교육실습의 영향”, “교육대학의 풍토나 분위기”, “교대생들의 긍정적 적응 태도”, “가르치는 일에 대한 의미 형성” 등이 작용한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과, 초등교사 양성교육의 질을 높이기 위해서는 교육대학 교육과정의 개선, 교육실습의 강화 등과 아울러 교육대학에 학생들이 입학하는 입학 시기의 조절, 그리고 선발 방법의 개선 등이 필요한 것으로 나타났다.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the characteristics of students' changing process during their study in a teachers' college. To achieve the purpose, a qualitative case study was carried out in a teachers' college. The results of the study were as followings: First, 'the alternating phenomenon' appeared on the students' changing process; students who had strong motivation for teaching at the entrance stage have eventually been weakened on their motive for teaching, whereas students who had low level of motivation at the early phase have been strengthened on their motive for teaching. Second, the causes of its appearance named as 'the alternating phenomenon' are as followings: 1) "the influence of curriculum at the teachers' college, 2) "the influence of teaching practice", 3) "the climate and atmosphere of the college, 4) "the positive attitude of students", and 5) "students' finding meaning in teaching job". From this research, some hints might be indicated for the elementary teacher education. It is strongly required to develop effective curriculum, strengthen teaching practice at teachers' colleges, and change the times and methods of students screening.
