이 연구에서는 시각장애 특수학교 도서관의 전반적인 운영현황 및 교육 프로그램을 조사하고 개선점을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 외국의 시각장애인을 위한 학교도서관 운영사례를 조사하였으며, 전국의 시각장애 특수학교를 운영하고 있는 13개교를 대상으로 학교도서관 담당자를 통하여 설문지 조사를 실시하였다. 또한 국립서울맹학교의 시각장애학생들을 대상으로 학교도서관에서 제공되길 원하 는 서비스에 관해 면담조사를 하였다. 이를 통하여 우리나라 시각장애 특수학교 도서관의 지향할 방향을 분석하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the current condition of overall operation and educational programs of the libraries of special schools for children with visual impairment and present improvement points. To this end, cases of operation of libraries of schools for children with visual impairment in foreign countries were examined and questionnaire surveys were conducted on the persons in charge of the libraries of 13 special schools for children with visual impairment in operation throughout the country. In addition, an in-depth interview was conducted with the librarian of Seoul National School for the Blind and interview research was conducted on students with visual impairment regarding services they want to be provided by school libraries. Through these interviews and research, the direction in which the libraries of special schools for children with visual impairment in Korea should go was analyzed.
