The purpose of this study was to examine the current condition of overall operation
and educational programs of the libraries of special schools for children with visual
impairment and present improvement points. To this end, cases of operation of libraries
of schools for children with visual impairment in foreign countries were examined and
questionnaire surveys were conducted on the persons in charge of the libraries of 13 special
schools for children with visual impairment in operation throughout the country. In addition,
an in-depth interview was conducted with the librarian of Seoul National School for the
Blind and interview research was conducted on students with visual impairment regarding
services they want to be provided by school libraries. Through these interviews and research,
the direction in which the libraries of special schools for children with visual impairment
in Korea should go was analyzed.
