The purpose of this study was to diagnose gymnastic teaching ability of temporary elementary school physical education specialists(TESPES). It is very important for RESPES to get gymnastic skills in elemenraty school education classes. Because gymnastic activities are at once more allocated amount than others and very dangerous.
The subjects of partivipant observation were 164 TESPES(females 74, males 90). The sjbjects of in-depth intervie were four TESPES(female and male 2 each other) by purposive sampling.
According to the pilot study(Son, 1999a), the selc-evaluation level on skills of gymnastic domain of TESPES was lowest among five psychomotor domains. The self-evaluation level on mat skills of TESPES was highes among four hymnastic domains. This result was same both males and remales. On the one hand, the results on lack of skills were different, according to gender: males were blance beam and females were horizontal bar. These results of questionnaires were similar to onces of the actual sklls test.
According to the in-depth interview, the lack of gymnastic skills of TESPES was due to they learned inappropriate physical educaion classes in elementary. middle, and high schools, Gymnastic lecture of college failed in improving their levels. too.
According to the participant observation . however, TESPES wored hard in other to upgrade their levels. TESPES will take excellent gymnastic teaching ability in elementary physical education classes. if they keep up such efforts.
