The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of story sharing activities using six thinking hats on
young children’s creativity and verbal expression abilities. The subject of this study were 52 young
children who attended a kindergarten in Busan. The experimental group participated in the story sharing
activities using six thinking hats while the comparison group did story sharing activities using topics in
everyday life. The experiment took place between December 3rd, 2013 and January 29th, 2014, with
activities carried out 16 times in total 2-3 times per week for a period of 7 weeks (excluding the school
vacation period). Data were analyzed by ANCOVA. The findings of the study are as follows: First, the
experimental group which experienced story sharing activities using six thinking hats showed a statistically
significant increase in creativity compared to the comparison group which did not experience story sharing
activities with six thinking hats technique. Secondly, the experimental group which experienced story
sharing activities using six thinking hats showed a statistically significant increase in verbal expression
abilities compared to the comparison group.
