본 연구는 학습자 중심교육이 강조되고 있는 오늘날 초인지가 자기주도적 학습전략에 영향을 미치는 중요한 변수로 보고, 초인지를 활용하여 자기주도적 학습전략을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육적 적용 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 초인지와 자기주도적 학습전략의 개념과 특성 및 구성요소를 분석하고, 그 교육적 적용방안으로 목표설정과 계획, 자기점검 및 실행, 자기평가와 강화 등으로 검토한 후, 구체적인 학습활동의 예시와 질문방법을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 도출한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초인지 학습전략은 문제해결과정에서 자신의 학습과제에 쉽게 접근할 수 있고, 심화학습도 가능하게 하므로 실제 교육현장에서 매우 유용한 전략이 될 수 있다. 둘째, 자기주도적 학습전략은 학습을 통해 향상되어질 수 있는 능력으로 적절한 교수방법을 통해 가르쳐야 한다는 것이다. 셋째, 초인지를 활용한 자기주도적 학습전략의 향상을 위해서는 수업장면에서 초인지와 관련된 발문을 최대한 활용함으로써 학습의 효과성을 증진시켜야 한다.
