The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of the instruction using the teaching strategies based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences and to analyze learners\' responses. The specific questions set up for the present study were as follows:
1. Which of these instrucions, the teacher-centered instructional model and the instructional model using the teaching strategies based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligencesm has more effective results on academic achieement ?
2. What are learners\' responses to the teaching strategies based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences like ?
THe subjects of the present stduy were 80 students sampled from 5th graders of an elementary school in Pusam. The forst experimental group(control group) consisted of one class of students who participated in the teacher-centered instructional model. The second experimental group(experimental group) consisted of one class of students who partivipated in the instructional model using the teaching strategies based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
It took 6 weeks for thise experiment.
In order to verify the effects of the experiment , a post-academic achievement test was administered after the instructions and the quantitative data were analyzed by t-test.
The results from the present study were as follows:
Firtst, the scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. In comparions with the pre test scores, the post test scores of the experimental group were higher, while those of the control group were a little lower. The reson for this result might be the understanding of academic information in different perspectives by evoking their interests and equally providing the opportynities to use their seven intelligences.
Second, learaners\' responsese to the instructional model using the teaching strategies based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences were analyzed and evaluated according to the four categories: favorite activity, task-solving, product presentation, and degree of satisfaction.
The learniers demonstrated positive responses.
The favorite activities were role- playing, making and singing songs.
While the learners had difficulty in gathering rewources to solve their tasks, they enjoyed and wanted conticually to learn by this instructional model.
The above results therefore implied that;
First, the instructional model using the teaching strategies based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences is more efective on academic achievement than the teacher-centered instrucional model. Therefore, in order to increase the academic achievement , we neet to include equally the teaching strategies which make learners experience these seven intelligences.
Second, most of the learners showed the positive reponses to the instrucional model using the teaching strategies based on the Theroy of Multiple Ibtelligences.
