레빈의 장이론은 상당히 창의적이며, 복합적인 이론이다. 장이론의 이론체계는 미시이론(일반이론과 특수이론), 거시이론(실행연구와 집단역학), 메타이론을 포괄한다. 장이론은 인간 행동의 특수한 측면을 다루는 이론인가 하면, 매우 형식적인 언어를 사용하면서 인간 행동의 일반적인 이해 및 변화를 시도하고 학문하는 방법이나 안목을 제시하는 이론이기도 하다. 장이론은 교육학의 새로운 발전을 위하여 고찰할만한 요소들을 많이 품고 있다. 이 글에서는 교육학의 본질적 과제, 인간이해, 논리와 경험의 통합, 이론과 실천의 통합 등 네 가지 측면에서 장이론이 교육학에 던지는 도전을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 교육에 관한 폐쇄적 개념망을 새롭고 과감하게 구축해야 할 당위성, 교육하는 인간을 이해해야 할 필요성, 교육학의 지속적 발전을 위해 필수적인 논리-경험과 이론-실천의 통합을 논의하였다.
Kurt Lewin’s field theory is very creative and multi-faceted. The whole entity of it contains micro-theory(general and specific), macro-theory(action research and group processes), and meta-theory. Field theory deals with the specific aspects of human behavior, tries to construct the general mechanism of it, tries to change it, and presents the disciplinary methodology. Field theory implies many valuable characteristics to be considered for the development of educational studies. I discuss the challenging tasks of educational studies evoked from field theory. Discussion covers the necessities of constructing the closed conceptual network system of education, understanding the educating person, and integrating logic-reality and theory-practice.
