The purpose of this study was to analysis the counseling need for handicapped children parents for development of the counseling model. Two hundred eighty mentally retarded children parents were selected from the elementary special education school in Busan, and one hundred fifty-three parents were responded.
The measures were made 2 ways, the one is open style questionaire to analysis for the handicapped children parent the other is made by personal hypothesis. The data were used for content analysis and frequency analysis.
The research questions were posed as follows
1. What is the counseling needs of handicapped children parents in elementary special school.
2. What is the considerable counseling factor to development counseling model for the handicapped children parents.
The results of the experiments were as follows:
1.The conflict factors of the handicapped children parents can classfied 1)the problem related future of the handicapped children. 2)the problem related relations with the brothers/sisters, family and neighborhood and 3)the problem related own personal value. And to slove these problem, to intend to involve in counseling program, about 60~70% of parents want participation.
2.The considerable counseling factors to development counseling model for the handicapped children parents are 1)the method for career and future factors of the handicapped children and parents. 2)the problem solution ability related relations with the brothers/sisters, family and neighborhood and 3)the ability problem related own personal value.
