우리나라는 21세기 고도의 지식정보화 사회에 진입하면서, 개인의 자아실현 및 국가 경쟁력을 높이기 위해 ‘창의성 계발’을 교육개혁의 핵심목표 중 하나로 설정하여 추진하고 있다(이정규, 2005). 창의성 계발을 목표로 추진되고 있는 교육개혁 중 하나는 2000년도 개정된 제7차 교육과정으로 “21세기 세계화․정보화 시대를 주도할 자율적이고 창의적인 한국인 육성”을 기본방향으로 설정하여 시행하고 있다. 또한 2000년 1월에 ‘영재교육진흥법’이 공포되어 영재들의 창의성 함양을 목표로 영재교육을 실시하고 있다. 영재교육진흥법은 재능이 뛰어난 사람을 조기에 발굴하여 타고난 잠재력을 계발할 수 있도록 능력과 소질에 맞는 교육을 실시함으로써 개인의 자아실현을 도모하고 국가·사회의 발전에 기여하게 함을 목적으로 한다. 더욱이 2010년까지 전체 초․중․고등학생의 5%인 40만 명에게 ‘수월성 교육’을 실시하고 창의적인 인재를 육성하여 국가경쟁력을 높여야 한다는 현실적인 필요성에 의해 ‘수월성 교육종합대책(2004)’이 발표되었다. 이처럼 창의성 계발을 교육개혁의 핵심목표로 삼고 영재교육진흥법을 공포하여 재능이 뛰어난 인재 양성에 힘쓰는 것은 창의성이 시대적으로 중요함을 시사한다고 볼 수 있다.
The purpose of this research was to explore whether the invention education program has an effect on increasing creativity of high achievers in elementary schools. Subjects were 30 high achievers from 6 different schools in Yangsan area. The students of each group consisted of eleven 6th graders and four 5th graders. The invention education program consisted of 25 themes with 15 sessions. The experimental group participated in the invention program, while the control group received 15 lectures from a teacher. All subjects were taken the TTCT tests twice, before and after the experiment. Type A of verbal TTCT was used as the pretest, and Type B was taken as the posttest. The collected data was scored by an experienced TTCT expert. We conducted ANCOVA tests to test the effects of the invention program. The results show that the invention education program had positive effect on enhancing creativity, in particular fluency and originality, of high achievers. However there was no effect of the invention education program on flexibility.
