본 연구는 현상학적 접근을 통하여 중환자실 간호사가 체험하는 심리적 트라우마의 본질적 의미를 심층적으로 탐색하고 이해하고자 van Manen의 해석학적 현상학적 방법으로 시도되었다. 연구의 참여자는 서울 시내 4개 상급종합병원 중환자실에 근무하는 간호사로 목적적 표본추출(purposivesampling)에 의하여 선정된 12명이었다. 자료 수집은 2014년 11월부터 2015년 9월까지 비구조화된 질문을 사용한 심층면담을 통하여 이루어졌으며 참여자의 동의하에 녹음된 면담 자료는 연구자가 직접 필사한 후 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 도출된 중환자실 간호사의 외상 체험의 본질적 주제는‘억눌린 억울함이 표출됨’, ‘내재된 두려움으로 위축됨’, ‘체념한 상태에서 억압함’, ‘자기반추를 통해 수용함’으로 나타났다. 중환자실 간호사의 심리적 트라우마는 개인과 상황에 따라 매우 다양한 양상으로 체험되어지므로 이에 대한 이해를 토대로 중환자실 간호사를 위한 심리적 외상 예방 프로그램을 개발할 필요가 있다.
This study was done to understand the meanings and nature of experiences of the psychological trauma of nurses. working in ICU. A method of research adapted was Hermeneutic Phenomenological Method of van Manen. Participants were 12 nurses who were selected by purposive sampling in 4 intensive ICUs in Seoul. Data collection was conducted from November 2014 to September 2015 through in-depth interviews. The four essential themes demonstrated by participants from this study were 1) expression of a suppressed sense of injustice 2) Shrink by inherent fears 3) Oppression in a state of resignation and 4) acceptance through self-reflection. The psychological trauma of nurses in ICU nurses is experienced in a variety of ways depending on the individual and the situation. The results of this study indicate that there is a need to develop a preventive psychological trauma program for physical and mental health and psychological well being of ICU nurses.
