The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the reading instruction using text structure recognition and summary strategies on expository text reading comprehension of three middle school students with reading comprehension disabilities or reading comprehension difficulties. A Single subject research was used. Reading comprehension, and reading attitude were measured to investigate the effects of the study. The results of the study were as follows. First, Direct Instruction using text structure recognition and summary strategies was effective on the expository text reading comprehension improvement. Second, Direct Instruction using text structure recognition and summary strategies was effective on the reading attitude improvement of the middle school students with reading comprehension disabilities. Third, direct instruction using text structure recognition and summary strategies maintained the expository reading comprehension improvement even after the intervention. Based on the result of the study, this means that the reading instruction using text structure recognition and summary strategies would be helpful middle school students who have reading comprehension disabilities or difficulties to improve on expository text reading comprehension and reading attitude.
