In Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Mamet observes the mass media and the relations between the sexes in modern urban society. And he recalls his sex life ruined and destroyed by the mass media in a consumerism society. He tries to blame mass media in a capitalism society for the perverted relationship between the sexes. There is a lot of obscene words in this play. Even when the scene begins, Danny and Bernie are talking about having sex with women. Throughout the play Bernie’s Sexual fantasy influences Danny’s behavior and mind. Bernie watches the pornography or racy ads after work, and what he watched causes the rigid hostility between the sexes in the play. So all characters in the play have fear of the opposite sex. Eventually, the relationship in the play shows a form of disconnection. The purpose of this paper is to survey the perverted relations between men and women who live in contemporary American society where is spreaded by consumerism, and to study the real social message this human relationship means.
