Han Seok-ho, father of Han Jae-rak who authored Nokpa-miscellanea(綠波雜記), learned literature beginning at the age of twenty-nine from Park Ji-won, whom King Jeongjo criticized for writing. Jeongjo ordered Han Jae-ryeom, son of Han Seok-ho, to change his style of writing because it differed from his own. When Jeongjo passed away, Han Jae-ryeom was exiled. Nokpa-miscellanea(綠波雜記), written in 1830, records stories of sixty-six kisaengs of Pyeongyang, and the five men around them, whom Han Jae-rak personally met. The book is not a mere record of the sixty-six women and their biological information. Han Jae-rak made the effort to personally visit these women to watch their performances and understand the person that stands behind the performances, and wrote the stories of the women with concise and caring prose. There had been many book collector and publishing houses in Zhejiang(浙江), and thus there were many books from the area in Liulichang(琉璃廠). In the eighteenth century, the literati of the area operated a bookstore.
