The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of negative environment, life event stress
and positive environment, social support on suicidal ideation of high school students, and
communicatethemediationeffectsofdepressionintherelationshipamongthem,andinquireintothe
structuralrelationshipamonglifeeventstress,socialsupportanddepression,andsuicidalideation.A
surveyoflifeeventstress,socialsupport,depressionandsuicidalideationwasmadeon959second
yearstudentsof12highschoolslocatedintheSeoulMetropolis,InchonMetropolitanCity,Gyeonggi
ProvinceandGangwonProvincetocollectdata.ThecovariancestructureanalysisusingLISREL 8.54
was made to analyze data. The results of this study were as follows: First, the suicidal
ideation(schoollife,home life,socialrelationship,ego-sphere)ofhigh schoolstudents had nota
significant direct effect on the suicidalideation,but the socialsupport(parents support,friends
support,teachers support)had a directly significantnegative effect(-.12)on the suicidalideation.
Second,both life eventstress and socialsupporthad a directeffecton the depression.And the
standardized path coefficientof lifeeventstressandsocialsupportfactorson depression was.45
and-.41,whichallofthem werestatisticallysignificant.Theexplainedvarianceoflifeeventstress
and socialsupporton depression was 47%.Third,the depression ofhigh schoolstudents had a
directpositiveeffecton thesuicidalideation,andthestandardizedpath coefficientofdepression on
suicidalideation was .70.Fourth,the life eventstress had a positive effect(.31)on the suicidal
ideation by a carrier ofdepression,while the socialsupporthad a negative effect(-.28)on the
suicidalideation by a carrier ofdepression.Totalexplained variance oflife eventstress,social
supportanddepressiononwholevarianceofsuicidalideationwas58%.
