본 연구는 동양 철학의 근원인 주역의 원리를 적용해 한국형 스토리텔링 창작 지원 도구의 개발 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 스토리텔링 창작 지원 도구란 영화, 애니메이션 등 선형적인 서사 장르의 시나리오를 개발 및 작성하는 과정을 지원하는 도구이다. 스토리텔링 기술은 크게 ‘검색(browsing) 기술, 저작(authoring) 기술, 시각화(visualization) 기술, 상영(exhibition) 기술, 사용자 생성 스토리텔링(UGS) 기술’의 5대 영역으로 나뉘는데1) 스토리텔링 지원 도구는 이 중 검색 기술과 저작 기술에 특히 주목하여 보편적, 기반적, 원형적 스토리텔링의 최소 요소를 재구성하고, 상품 가치와 완성도 높은 시나리오를 구축하는 데 있어 적극적으로 활용 가능한 프로그램이다. <드라마티카 프로(Dramatica Pro)>, <파이널 드래프트(Final Draft)>, <파워스트럭처(Power Structure)>, <스토리 크래프트(story Craft)>, <터비스 블록버스터(Truby’s Blockbuster)>, <플롯 언리미티드(Plot Unlimited)>, <서트 오피스(Thought Office)> 등 스토리텔링 창작을 위해 사용되는 스토리텔링 창작 지원 도구는 2010년 현재 100여 종이 넘게 출시되어 있으며, 미국을 중심으로 상용화되어 있다. 미디어와 기술의 발전에 따라 나타난 이러한 스토리텔링 창작 지원 도구들은 표준화된 프로그램을 통해 창작에 자동화 공정을 도입했으며, 1인 작가의 절대적 역량에 의존하던 창작 환경을 변화시키고 있다.
