교육과정에서 강조한 의사소통 중심 영어교육에서 문화교육도 매우 중요하며 영어권 문화에 대한 교육이 함께 이루어졌을 때 비로소 실제적인 의사소통 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 균형 잡힌 영어교육이 될 수 있을 것이다. 외국 문화의 이해와 함께 내실 있는 영어 교육을 위한 적극적인 방안의 하나로 원어민을 활용한 다양한 문화 체험 학습을 들 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 초등학생들의 의사소통능력 신장을 위한 원어민보조교사를 활용 한 문화지도 수업 모형을 개발하고 적용하여 그 효과를 알아보는 데 있다. 영어교육에서 문화지도를 통한 의사소통 능력 개발에 그 목적이 있으며 그 방법으로 학교에 배치되어 있는 영어권 원어민교사를 적극 활용하여 4학년 학습자들이 정규 영어 수업 시간에 이루 어지는 다양한 문화 엿보기, 문화 이해하기, 문화 비교하기, 문화 체험하기 등을 경험하게 함으로써 의사소통 능력 뿐 만 아니라 영어에 대한 정의적 태도가 어떻게 변화되는가를 알아보고자 한다.
It's planned in this study to analyze the English units of the 7th national curricula, to determine what to teach about the culture of major English-speaking countries, to let a native English speaker teach it, and then to check what effects it had on the communicative competence of elementary English learners. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to develop an instructional model and relevant lesson plans, to examine what changes the instructional model and lesson plans brought to the learning attitude and communicative competence of children, and ultimately to determine some of the right direction for cultural education provided by native English speakers. For the purpose, the instructional model including cultural guidance by the native speaker teacher was designed and applied to the experimental group. The results show that the developed model brought very favorable changes to the children in terms of motivation, interest and class participation.
