It's planned in this study to analyze the English units of the 7th national
curricula, to determine what to teach about the culture of major English-speaking
countries, to let a native English speaker teach it, and then to check what effects
it had on the communicative competence of elementary English learners. The
purpose of this study was, therefore, to develop an instructional model and
relevant lesson plans, to examine what changes the instructional model and lesson
plans brought to the learning attitude and communicative competence of children,
and ultimately to determine some of the right direction for cultural education
provided by native English speakers. For the purpose, the instructional model
including cultural guidance by the native speaker teacher was designed and
applied to the experimental group. The results show that the developed model
brought very favorable changes to the children in terms of motivation, interest
and class participation.
