This study was conducted on foreign workers living in P City,
Gyeonggi-do, to see the effects of short-term group art therapy in
decreasing accumulative stress in foreign workers. The research subjects
were 14 foreign workers experiencing cultural stress, divided into 2 groups of
experimental group and control group, 7 people each. Experimental group
received 8 group art therapy lessons, 90 minutes per week. Acculturation
Stress Scale, PITR and paired -test was used to analyze the data. Results
: Short-term group art therapy was successful in reduction of accumulative
stress in foreign workers. Results of Acculturation Stress Scale showed that
decrease in accumulative stress was significant. Also, tests on subcategories
of accumulative stress (discrimination, language conflict, and legal standing)
showed significant reduction after short-term group art therapy. In
conclusion, it was confirmed that this short-term group art therapy was
effective in decrease of accumulative stress in foreign workers by giving
them mental and emotional help.
