The first step to understand Buddhism is a proper comprehension of the Buddha's name. The Buddha's name is included Buddhism and refers to a state of enlightenment. Because the Buddha's name as a proper nouns is pronounced with the same everywhere in the world, It is a very important means of communication not only within the same cultural area but also between different cultures. But in Korea, because Buddhism was introduced to Korea via China, we have been making a mistake in pronouncing the Buddha's name through Chinese characters which were translated from original words, thereby confusing people because of the quite different pronunciation compared to the original. This study tries to investigate the understanding of the right meaning and pronunciation of the Buddha's name. In the beginning, we must try to pronounce the original names of the Trikāya(Dharma-kāya, Saṃbhoga-kaya, Nirmāṇa-kāya) and ten names of Tathāgata(Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, Vidyācarana-sampanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara, Purusadamyasārathi, sāstā deva-manusyānām, Buddha Bhagavat; Lokanātha; Lokajyeṣṭha). Scholars should continue to study and encourage the proper pronunciation of the original terms of Buddhism.
