The goal of this study was to evaluate a mentoring program for children moved from North Korea and to develop an effective mentoring model. A mentoring program jointly developed by an university and a community welfare center was implemented for 9 North Korean children for 9 months. Five college students from North Korea and four South Korean college students participated in this study as mentors. To examine the effects of the mentoring program, children’s behaviors were observed and measured by parents through K-CBCL(Child Behavior Check List). The analysis results revealed that the children’s behaviors had changed positively and the external behaviors of the children had decreased, but which it is not statistically significant. The focus group interview was conducted for better understanding of interactions between the children and the mentors. The interview showed that empowering mentoring was found to positively influence the children’s adaptation in South Korea, providing an adult role model. Interactions between mentors from North Korea and South Korea also indicated the positive effects of mentoring to the mentors from North Korea, who were struggling to adapt to college culture in South Korea.
