This study aims at providing alternative approaches to international education development and cooperation as a part of education for international understanding. Based on principles of
education for international understanding, this study describes the international agendas for education development such as MDGs, EFA, and FTI. And the Korean experience of education
development during the former decades is discussed as a model case for effective assistance in education to developing countries.
As international development and cooperation ineducation has been dependent upon the given indicators in social and economic dimensions so far, it should move toward education development including mutual understanding & respect, peace, conflict resolution, and human rights for growing together and living together. Then this suggests that international education
development and cooperation should be considered as a process of lifelong learning, take a competence based approach, and secure the principles of education for international understanding such as emphasizing cultural identity, understanding ‘others’with mutual respect, and be ‘praxical’by taking reflective learning and practice.
