"This study was conducted in order to develop a urinary incontinence control program for elderly women in community and to evaluate its effect through application. For this purpose, we sampled 22 advanced elderly women who were using Kyungrodang at S District in Seoul and had the symptom of urinary incontinence, and applied the urinary incontinence control program for 36 weeks or 9 months from March to December, 2009. The program consisted of urinary incontinence education, pelvic muscle exercise training, group selfexercise, and support and monitoring. Then, we measured the symptom of urinary incontinence, self‐efficacy and quality of life before and after the program, and compared and analyzed the results. According to the results, first, the elderly women who had participated in the urinary incontinence control program showed significant improvement in the presence and frequency of urinary incontinence (t=2.090, p<.001) and subjective improvement of urinary incontinence (t=‐5.332, p<.001). Second, self‐efficacy was significantly higher after the program than just after the start of the program (t= 2.712, p<.05). Lastly, the urinary incontinence control program reduced discomfort in daily life and, consequently, improved the quality of life (t=3.876, p<.01). This study is meaningful in that it tested the effect of a urinary incontinence control program by applying it to advanced elderly women in community through a long period and, through this, it presented basic information on urinary incontinence programs for community elderly women.
