The purpose of this study is to understand Transactional Analysis, by comparing T.A. with the communication types of Satir. Mostly previous studies on T.A. relating to communication type is more about the relations of parents-child, children, couples, teachers-students and peer group. So I decide to confirm the validity of T.A. by relating it to the communication types of Satir. Those two theories have some similarities: First, the theories say that people interact by communication. Second, communication is inter-complex action between people. Third, they stress a positive view of the human and pursue development and change through training of how communicate. Fourth, they pinpoint limitation of immature self-communication. And these are differences between both theories: Frist, T.A. prefers short-term counseling to bring change to one's behavior by focusing on observable conscious behavior. While Satir's theory prefers long-term counseling, paying more attention to one's unconscious behavior. Second, T.A. tries to release one from the past, emphasizing the concept of ‘here and now.’ However Satir tries to see the present with a fixed view from the past experience, emphasizing the past. Third, T.A. is a tool to acknowledge the self-state by approach of communication training. Satir is to understand the one's self-esteem. Key words : Transactional Analysis, Satir, communication types
