"The person-centered therapy has been paid attention as psychology understanding and explaining the person's mind. Therefore, it has been rapidly developed for fifty years. But, there are few the person-centered therapists in this country and it was short of diversified approach to the explanation and understanding about the person-centered therapy. As comparing the person-centered therapy with Mahayana Buddhism in the orient, this study will make a research for
up-to-date and try to the understanding about the person-centered therapy. For the purpose, this study tried to figure out the relation the person-centered therapy a viewpoint of Mahayana Buddhism by means of five factors that include a cause of the suffering, a viewpoint of the self, a solution, a goal, an attitude of therapists, a potentiality. A cause of the suffering is related with the organismic experience and incompatibility of self concept, the reality and problem of the language's expression. And a viewpoint of the self is related to a process, self, and absence of ego. A solution includes the relation and recognition of the dependent origination. and an attitude of therapists is related with sincerity and unconditional respect, empathy, Bodhisattva'mind. The potentiality includes a tendency of self-realization and tathagatagarbha. By means of the relation, this study will explain the similarity between the person-centered approach and the Mahayana Buddhism in terms of a solution of the suffering. And it will make an opportunity to figure out a oriental and Buddhistic viewpoint of the person-centered therapy.
