intelligence, creativity, emotional creativity, overexcitabilities between the primary gifted and
ordinary children. Especially, this study tried to look for the possibilities of the social and
emotional aspects using emotional intelligence and emotional creativity tests as well as the
overexcitability test to identify the gifted. For the study, 57 primary gifted children who are
enrolled in the class for the gifted and 59 ordinary children without any previous gifted
education experiences participated. The Raven intelligence test, emotional intelligence test,
Torrance test of creativity thinking, Averill & Thomas-Knowlese's emotional creativity test,
and Kim's OEQ II were utilized. The result of this study is as follows. There were
significant differences across all cognitive and affective variables assessed in the study. Gifted
students showed significantly higher scores in intelligence, emotional intelligence, creativity,
emotional creativity, and overexcitability tests. General intelligence and general creativity were
the main differences which differentiate the gifted children from the ordinary ones among the
utilized tests. However, overexcitability was the better predictor compared to the emotional
intelligence and emotional creativity in identifying the gifted, indicating overexcitabiliy may be
the possible alternative in assessing the affective and emotional parts of the gifted.
