There has been recently growing attention on intervention for older adults at risk in the social work field. As suicide among the elderly becomes social problems, the need for social work intervention has been addressed. The purpose of this study is to discuss what contents of
social work education and training are to develop for social workers who work with older adults at risk including suicidal elderly. Participant observation and interviews with nine social workers working at the elderly suicide prevention program were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Only results to the following themes were discussed in this paper: social workers\' perception on elderly suicide prevention, their role in this practice and the required attributes for what they do, and the difficulties they experienced. The findings unveiled how social workers experienced working at the elderly suicide prevention program. Implications for social work education and training are highlighted.
