This study was done by analysing the implicit psychological elements inside the Grimm brothers’
fairy tale ‘the Allerleirauh Princess’ by the three stages of alchemy based on Jung’s analytical
psychology which were then applied to the sandplay therapy of a victim of domestic violence. In the
fairy tale, the first nigredo stage is when the princess runs away from the King who is her father
and becomes a kitchen slave which meant losing her identity. In the second albedo stage, she slowly
works towards regaining her identity while living a miserable life doing dirty and unpleasant jobs.
The last and third rubedo stage, she succeeds in realizing integration by getting married to the King
who had finally recognized her as the princess. the three stages of alchemy also appear in this
sandplay therapy. In the first nigredo stage, the client loses her will to live and also loses herself
because of her father’s violence and uncaring family and relatives. In the second albedo stage, while
working hard to find her identity, the client starts to really mature and care about herself, not as
much about her family as she had been doing. In the final rubedo stage, the client meets with her
father and after exploding her feelings and anger towards him, she finally finds her identity and is
able to love herself as a totally independent person. the significant meaning of this study may lie in
the fact that by analysing a fairy tale into three stages of alchemy and by applying it to the
sandplay therapy, the psychotherapeutic effects of sandplay were presented.
