The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a leadership program applied to
5-year-old children on creative leaderships and self-concepts of young children. It was
intended to provide an effective program to improve creative leadership and self-concept of
children. To examine the research problems, the 40 participants were selected from 2 child
care centers in Y Gu, Seoul, and then set the experimental and control group consisted of 20
5-year-children for each group. After verifying the homogeneity of the experimental and
control group by implementing creative leadership and self-concept test for children as a
pre-test, the experimental group adopts a leadership program which consists of 16 classes
while the control group adopts the standard child care program only. After experimentation,
a post test was implemented on the two groups; the differences of averages of creative
leadership and self-concept were analyzed by t-test, and the relation between creative
leadership and self-concepts of children was investigated by evaluating Pearson correlation
coefficient. In conclusion, this study confirmed that the leadership program for children was
effective to improve creative leadership and self-concept of young children. Therefore, it
implies that it is necessary to apply creative leadership programs to a child care program in
view of improving positive self-concept and leadership of young children in their childhood
as an absolutely important period of improving self-concept.
