The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze understanding and needs of kindergarten teachers for multi-cultural education, and to obtain preliminary data with which ways of effective multi-cultural education might be found. This research was carried out among 204 public․private kindergarten teachers in Pusan City, and the research method was questionnaire survey. Collected materials were processed with SPSS 18.0 for Windows. Data was processed into frequency, percentage, mean amd standard deviaton.
Conclusions drawn with findings of this study are as follows. First, kindergarten teachers' understanding on multi-cultural education showed that multi-cultural education is necessary since it helps to accept the differences between oneself and other people, to live in a community and to develop a positive selfidentity.And The problems of multi-cultural education are the lacking of awareness of necessity and understanding on multi-cultural education, lacking of multi-cultural contents in kindergarten books. Second, as needs for multi-cultural education implementation, trainings were shown to be in need for various and specific means for lecturing, and in order to change the understanding of the teachers on the children from multi-cultural families, multi-cultural lecture & study cases were asked to be introduced.
