In the Lee Hongwoo’s theory of knowledge education, ‘education’ follows a functionalist
conceptualization method which is a means of realizing academic value through education. For this
reason, Lee Hongwoo’s theory of knowledge-education itself is a discussion on ‘knowledge-education’
and discussions about academic(theoretical) knowledge, though not explicit, appear in the form of
discussions about ‘education’. In addition, Lee Hongwoo’s theory of knowledge-education emphasizes
various forms of academic(theoretical) knowledge through appeal to ‘humanity’. In this study, in
order to get a good understanding of Lee Hongwoo’s theory of knowledge-education, it is required
to reveal the perspective of knowledge that is based on Lee Hongwoo’s theory of
knowledge-education and to clarify the limitation through critical review. Based on this, researcher
tried to examine the perspective of knowledge from a critical point of view. As a result of this
review, Lee Hongwoo’s theory of knowledge-education including the possibility of absolute truth and
perception of it, the possibility of object recognition of the subject of recognition and the possibility
of objective knowledge, possibility of linguistic representation of knowledge, dualism between theory
and practice, and claim on superiority of theoretical knowledge. In the view that the position of
Lee Hongwoo’s theory of knowledge-education is not the only thing about knowledge in general,
and to explore its limitations in a way that examines the controversial discussions on the aspects of
knowledge.
