School classes are spread in various ways by interpreting and utilizing textbooks by teachers and
students. As such, ‘how to interpret textbooks’ is a very important task for teachers and students,
but little research has been done on it. Therefore, this study first developed the analytical
framework of textbook interpretation methods by considering the development process of
hermeneutics, and used it to analyze the methods of interpreting textbooks in school classes. The
study have shown that relatively simple ‘doctrinaire interpretations’ and ‘understanding the author’
paradigm are commonly used depending on the particular circumstances of school classes, but the
‘understanding of human existence’ paradigm does not work well. In addition, it was found that
the methods of interpretation for understanding textbooks by teachers and students were limited by
the specific circumstances of their school classes. Accordingly, this study proposed further studies as
a new alternative to the way teachers and students interpret textbooks in school classes.
