Old age should be seen as the time of self-realization and self-integration, although it declines physically but becomes more mature internally. Especially, when the elderly positively accept the experience of loss due to
aging, they can successfully perform the developmental task of self-integration. In order to positively accept the experience of loss, the elderly increase the spiritual demands such as meaning, hope, value, transcendence, and integration, which is the spirituality inherent in human existence. Spirituality is an energy that plays a positive role in the development of human beings, and plays an important role in coping with various difficulties accompanying the aging process of the elderly and living a meaningful life. Therefore, in order to support the successful aging of the elderly from an integrated point of view, research on the spiritual aspects
of the elderly will be needed. The purpose of this study is to emphasize the need to seek social welfare
intervention for the spirituality and self-integration of the elderly as a holistic view of the elderly in social welfare practice and to pay attention to the spirituality of the client in order to provide more diverse social welfare services. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, we examined the meaning of spirituality from the perspective of human development as an excellent resource to help the successful performance of the developmental task of old age. Research on spirituality in Korea is also increasing due to the influence of the holistic viewpoint emphasized in the practice of modern social welfare. However, there is still a very short study of the relationship between spirituality and self-integration of the elderly in the field of social welfare. Therefore, research that verifies the interaction with spirituality, which is the inner resource of the resources contributing to the improvement of the self-integrity of the elderly, will have practical significance in providing basic data of integrated services to support successful aging.
