This paper covers two variables that demand the utmost attention admist the tremendous whirlwind of changes currently occurring at the global level. They are the impact of Artificial Intelligence(AI) on the society as a whole caused by the 4th industrial revolution and its related direction of the Korean society at the collective consciousness level viewed from the perspective of social welfare. The current era is the time for AI and also the era of spirituality in which institutional religion is increasingly losing its influential power. The two contradicting forces are materialistic influences generated by AI and the invisible impacts of spirituality on the overall human lives. Confronting the uncertain future, these forces will exercise great influences on people’s thoughts about their identity, communal values, and social welfare development centered the public good. The purpose of this paper is to examine the meaning of spiritual self-realization that will be agonized by those whose lives will increasingly become subordinate to machines in the context of the AI era. From the viewpoint of uniquely Korean spiritual culture, the author particularly intends to examine the potentiality of ‘mutually-supporting’ (상생, 相生) social welfare in relation to future social problems that will be faced by the Korean society.
