본 연구는 중학생이 지각한 부모 양육태도와 공감능력의 관계를 분석하였다. 연구의 표집은 강원, 경기 지역의 5개 중학교 학생을 대상으로 하였으며, 410부 중 성실히 답한 384부를 분석에 활용하였다. 이중 남학생은 171명, 여학생은 213명이었다. 연구결과를 산출하기 위한 자료처리는 Pearson 상관분석과 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 친밀·합리적인 양육태도는 공감능력의 하위요인들과 유의한 정적상관 관계를, 통제, 과잉보호, 방임의 양육 태도는 공감능력의 하위요인들과 대체로 부적인 상관관계를 나타내었다. 둘째, 중다회귀분석 결과 아버지보다는 어머니의 양육태도가 공감능력에 대해 설명력이 컸으며, 특히 친밀·합리적인 태도가 공감능력을 높이는 것으로 분석되었다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 자녀의 올바른 성장을 위한 바람직한 부모양육태도가 논의되었고, 나아가 체계적 부모교육프로그램의 필요성과 자녀를 위한 사회 안전망 확보의 필요성이 제안되었다.
This study examined the effects of parents’ rearing attitudes as perceived by middle school students on their empathy. The subjects were 384 middle school students sampled from five different schools. Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficients were calculated to test the zero-order relationships between variables of the study. Positive correlations were found between parents’ intimate and rational rearing attitude and students’ abilities to feel empathy. In contrast, negative correlations were found between parents’ authoritarian, over-protective, indulgent attitudes and students’ empathy. Multiple regression analyses were used to test the effects of parents’ rearing attitudes on students’ empathy. The mothers’ rearing attitudes were more influential on students’ empathy than the fathers’. Especially, intimate and rational rearing attitudes factors were positively related to empathy. Implications of the findings were discussed for educational policy makers, researchers, and parents.
