This study, for the purpose of increasing counselor-in-training’s self-efficacy through group art activity counseling program, conducted validity check, effectiveness check, and a survey of level of satisfaction to the participants of this program. This study followed Park’s group counseling program model(1995) to develop a new program, and in the process utilized the Delphi Method to verify content validity and ensure efficacy of the program. Parts of the program indicated to lack validity during the initial Delphi Method examination were revised. Re-examination after revision showed that the program was valid.
The completed program was applied to fifteen counselor-in-training who were majoring in counseling psychology at a university in the city of Daejeon. The program’s effectiveness was analyzed by comparing the average of counselor-in-training’s self-efficacy pre-post test going through the program.
In result, self-efficacy in general showed a significant difference. To know the detail, each of the sub-categories was analyzed. In result, counselor-in-training’s self-efficacy in counseling skill and counseling attitude showed a statistically meaningful difference before and after participating in the program. This led to the conclusion that this program was effective in increasing counselor’s self-efficacy in counseling skill and attitude. In contrast, self-efficacy in crisis management during counseling showed no meaningful difference before and after the program. Meanwhile, participants’ level of satisfaction for the program was high in general. Lastly, limits and suggestions for further research were discussed.
