The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trend of multicultural education and education in Japan by conducting systematic literature review on multicultural education and education for young children in Japan, to explore characteristics, and to establish its direction. The research method is literature research, The research papers are from 58 journals selected by J-STAGE and CINII search tools are reviewed. The subjects were limited to children and analyzed according to the period of study, current status of publication journals, research methods, and research contents. The research period was divided into literature research, experiment, practice, case, observation research, interview and questionnaire survey, and the research contents were classified into 12 themes including identity related to multiculturalism.
As a result, the number of research papers published by period was published from 1991 to 2019, and it has been steadily increasing since 2010. The current status of journals was continuously published in the Journal of Japanese Childcare Research and the Journal of University Research. The contents of the study included understanding of multiculturalism, Childcare Consciousness multicultural status and tasks, language and foreign cases. Finally, the direction of Japanese multicultural childcare and education was discussed.
