본 논문은 우선 영성에 대한 원불교적 관점을 정립하고 원불교의 수행방법인 삼학을 중심으로 영성계발의 원리와 방법, 특징을 고찰함으로써 영성교육의 지평을 넓히는 데에 목적이 있다. 원불교의 영성은 ‘신령스러운 성품’을 의미한다고 볼 수 있다. 원불교의 최초 임시교명 가운데 ‘영성소(靈性巢)’라는 표현은 하나의 인류, 하나의 세계를 건설하기 위해서 먼저 인간의 막혀있는 마음, 무지몽매한 마음을 활짝 열어가야 하므로 인류의 정신개벽을 주도해 가는 집을 의미한다. 삼학(三學)은 일원상의 진리를 깨쳐서 일원의 위력을 얻고 일원의 체성에 합하는 수행방법으로 정신수양·사리연구·작업취사(精神修養·事理硏究·作業取捨)를 일컫는다. 원불교 수행 방법을 영성계발의 관점에서 고찰한 결과는 다음과 같이 요약 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 원불교 영성은 우주만유, 제불제성, 일체중생에게 두루 내재하는 법신불 일원상과 상통한다. 둘째, 영성계발을 통하여 정신개벽을 이루고 일체 생령을 광대무량한 낙원으로 인도할 수 있다. 셋째, 영성계발의 방법은 진리적 종교의 신앙과 사실적 도덕의 훈련으로 병행된다. 넷째, 영성계발의 방법으로서 원불교 삼학을 근간으로 체계적인 수행 방법이 제시되어 있다. 다섯째, 일상수행의 요법은 일상적인 삶의 모든 영역에 관계가 있는 영성계발 방법이며 정기ㆍ상시로 구분하여 구체적인 훈련법을 제시하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 솔성요론을 통해서 활용이 쉬운 방법으로 상세히 제시되었다.
Preferentially, this thesis form a Won-Buddhism point of view about spirituality and has a aim to enlarge the boundaries of spiritual education by investigate the principles, methods and characteristic of spiritual development based on tree fold study how to practice of Won-Buddhism. It can be consider that the spirituality of Won-Buddhism means ‘the spiritualized nature’. The expression named ‘spiritual house’ which the first temporary religion name of Won-Buddhism means the house as leading a great opening of spirit of the human race. Because it is first widely open the human mind which was blocked and benighted for establish the one human race and one world. The three fold study means Cultivating the Spirit, Inquiry into Human Affairs and Universal Principles and Choice in Action as the way of practice with attain the awesome power of Il-Won and be unified the substance and nature of Il-Won through awake the Truth of Il-Won-Sang. It can be summarize and arrange as follows that the way of Won-Buddhism practice is considered result from the view of spiritual development. First of all, Won-Buddhism spirituality is communicate with Il-Won-Sang, the Dharm kaya Buddha, which was widely inherent to the original source of all things in the universe, the mind-seal of all the buddhas and sages and the original nature of all sentient beings. Second, through the spiritual development, it can be realize a great opening of spirit and lead all sentient beings to a vast and immeasurable paradise. Third, the way of spiritual development was run parallel with faith in a religion based on truth and training in morality based on facts. Fourth, as a way of spiritual development, it was represented systematic methods of practice on the basis of three fold study of Won-Buddhism. Fifth, the essential Dharmas of daily practice are way of spiritual development having relation with all realm of daily life and it represents the specific Dharmas of training divide into fixed-term and daily. In addition, it was represents in detail from easy way to practical use through the essential discourse on commanding the nature.
