이 연구의 목적은『삼국유사』에 나타난 일연의 역사의식을 고찰하고 한국교육사적 의의를 밝히는 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적에 따라 먼저, 일연이『삼국유사』를 저술한 당시의 고려사회의 시대 상황을 살펴보았다. 일연의 역사의식에는 당시 고려사회의 시대 상황이 반영되어 있기 때문이다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로『삼국유사』에 나타난 일연의 역사의식을 신이(神異) 사관, 민족주의 사관, 불교 사관으로 나누어서 살펴보았다. 첫째, 신이 사관은 국가적으로 몽고족의 침략이라는 상황에서 정신적인 측면을 강조함으로써 외세의 압력을 극복하고자하는 정신사관의 형태로 나타났다. 둘째, 민족주의 사관은 우리 민족이 단군(檀君)의 후손으로서 단일 민족이라는 자각과 국가의식의 반영이었다. 셋째, 불교 사관은 불교신앙의 힘으로 당시의 국가적 난국을 타개하려는 의도에서 비롯되었으며 불국토 사상과 호국불교 사상으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 이렇게 보았을 때, 일연의 세 가지 사관은 이민족의 침입에 대한 저항의식이라는 공통분모를 가지고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 일연의 역사의식이 갖는 한국교육사적 의의는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 일연의 역사의식은 한국의 고대 교육사를 연구할 때 중요한 단서가 되며 한국 고대사를 정립(鼎立)하는 데 있어서 중요한 지표가 된다. 둘째,『삼국유사』에 실린 단군신화에 나타난 일연의 역사의식을 통해서 교육이라는 삶의 양식과 그 기원을 파악할 수 있다. 특히 일연의 신이(神異)사관에 대한 새로운 해석학적(hermeneutical) 접근이 필요하다. 셋째,『삼국유사』에 수록된 많은 불교설화들은 기존의 문학교육적 차원에서의 연구뿐만 아니라, 종교교육으로서 불교교육적 차원에서 연구할 때도 큰 의의가 있다.
The purpose of this study is to consider the priest Ilyeon's consciousness of history shown in Samkukyusa and reveal the meaning of the history of education in Korea. According to the purpose of this study, firstly, we reviewed the contemporary times when Ilyeon wrote Samgukyusa, which is Goryo Dynasty. It is because in his perception on history the contemporary times in Goryo was reflected. Based on this, we divided his perception on history into Shini(jji申異) historical view, nationalism historical view and Buddhist historical view. First, Shini(jji申異) historical view was shown as a kind of spiritual historical view to overcome the pressure from the alien powers by emphasizing spiritual perspective in difficult circumstances such as M ongolian Attack. Secondly, nationalism historical view was a reflection of strong national consciousness and awareness of a nation-state as Dangun(擅君)'s descendants. Third, Buddhist historical view was born with the intention to overcome the difficult situations at that time with the power of Buddhist religion. It is shown as Bulgukto(佛國土) ideology and National Defense Buddhism . W hen trying to look like this, Ilyeon's three historical views are strongly correlated. The meaning of Ilyeon’ s History Consciousness shown in Sam gukyusa in the history of Education in Korea can be summarized as follows. First, in the myth of founder in Samgukyusa to which Shini(jji申異) historical view is much reflected, we can discover the genuine form of Korean education, or archetype of the education. Second, many folktales in Samkukyusa can be important subject matters of the literature education. Third, we can approach to Ilyeon’s worldview shown in Samkukyusa with religious education.
