The purpose of this study is to consider the priest Ilyeon's consciousness of history shown in Samkukyusa and reveal the meaning of the history of education in Korea. According to the purpose of this study, firstly, we reviewed the contemporary times when Ilyeon wrote Samgukyusa, which is Goryo Dynasty. It is because in his perception on history the contemporary times in Goryo was reflected. Based on this, we divided his perception on history into Shini(jji申異) historical view, nationalism historical view and Buddhist historical view.
First, Shini(jji申異) historical view was shown as a kind of spiritual historical view to overcome the pressure from the alien powers by emphasizing spiritual perspective in difficult circumstances such as M ongolian Attack. Secondly, nationalism historical view was a reflection of strong national consciousness and awareness of a nation-state as Dangun(擅君)'s descendants. Third, Buddhist historical view was born with the intention to overcome the difficult situations at that time with the power of Buddhist religion. It is shown as Bulgukto(佛國土) ideology and National Defense Buddhism . W hen trying to look like this, Ilyeon's three historical views are strongly correlated. The meaning of Ilyeon’ s History Consciousness shown in Sam gukyusa in the history of Education in Korea can be summarized as follows. First, in the myth of founder in Samgukyusa to which Shini(jji申異) historical view is much reflected, we can discover the genuine form of Korean education, or archetype of the education. Second, many folktales in Samkukyusa can be important subject matters of the literature education. Third, we can approach to Ilyeon’s worldview shown in Samkukyusa with religious education.
